The symbol ofhippy is terrified bythe actions ofpeople.

Gerald Herbert Holtom (1914 1985) was aBritish artist and designer. He designed the ND logo (pacific), which was adopted, non-exclusively, bythe British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), and became an international peace symbol.

On 21February 1958he designed the nuclear disarmament logo for the first Aldermaston March, organised bythe Direct Action Committee against Nuclear War (DAC) inEaster 1958(47April).

The logo was not copyrighted and later became known inthe wider world as ageneral-purpose peace symbol. The design was acombination ofthe letters N (two arms outstretched pointing down at 45degrees) and D (one arm upraised above the head) ofthe flag semaphore alphabet, standing for nuclear disarmament.

Auschwitz IIBirkenau went on tobecome amajor site ofthe Nazis Final Solution tothe Jewish Question during the Holocaust. From early 1942until late 1944, transport trains delivered Jews tothe camps gas chambers from all over German-occupied Europe, where they were killed en masse with the cyanide-based poison Zyklon B, originally developed tobe used as apesticide. An estimated 1.3million people were sent tothe camp, ofwhom at least 1.1million died. Around 90percent ofthose were Jews; approximately one insix Jews killed inthe Holocaust died at the camp. Others deported toAuschwitz included 150,000Poles, 23,000Romani and Sinti, 15,000Soviet prisoners ofwar, 400Jehovahs Witnesses, and tens ofthousands ofothers ofdiverse nationalities, including an unknown number ofhomosexuals. Many ofthose not killed inthe gas chambers died ofstarvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments.
