TEACHING ENGLISH TO UNIVERSITY TEACHING AND RESEARCH STAFF

Abstract. The focus of the article is about teaching English as a foreign language to university staff. This category of learners, overall, has a great teaching and research experience, deep knowledge in the subject area, and unfortunately, often negative past experience of learning English in school, when most of the methods were based on grammar-translation approach (Rivers & Temperley, 1978). Therefore, it has become quite relevant to address the needs of these learners. The current article presents the problems that English teachers faced when working with these learners, outlines a theoretical model that is used to address the issues and showcases several successful examples of activities that received positive feedback from the learners.
